Statement from Roselle Police and Mayor Donald Shaw - December 15, 2023

On Friday, December 15, 2023, at 1:57 p.m., Roselle Police responded to an auto-pedestrian accident at the intersection of Chestnut Street (County Rd 612) and West 2nd Avenue.

Preliminary investigation reveals the victim was attempting to cross Chestnut St. in the crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle. Police located the female lying in the southbound lane of Chestnut St. with serious injuries.

The victim was immediately transported by Roselle Fire Department to University Hospital in Newark. The vehicle operator remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.

"Our hearts ache for the pedestrian critically injured in the recent accident. We're rallying around them with unwavering support and prayers for strength in their recovery. Let's come together as a community to extend our compassion and work towards a safer environment for all," said Mayor Donald Shaw.

The accident investigation is active and led by the Roselle Police Traffic Safety Unit.
