Statement from Mayor Donald Shaw and Borough Council on the Passing of G.G. Woody

“We are tremendously saddened to learn of the passing of Mr. George ‘G. G.’ Woody, lifelong resident and owner of  G. G. Woody Funeral Home. As a proud graduate of Abraham Clark High School, Mr. Woody came back to his beloved hometown after bravely serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II and has been a pillar within this community ever since, establishing his funeral home in 1953.

Along with his business, Mr. Woody made history after being elected in 1957 as the first African-American member of the Borough Council, also serving with distinction as council president. Mr. Woody has always a loyal friend of Roselle, a treasured member of this community. On behalf of the Borough Council and myself, I wish to express our sincere condolences to the friends and family of this great man.”
