Statement from Mayor Donald Shaw on April 16 Shooting at House Party

There was an unfortunate incident that happened over the holiday weekend involving teenagers, a physical altercation and a gun.

According to the Roselle Police Department (RPD), at approximately 10:26 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2022, police responded to the area of Sheridan Ave and E 7th Ave on a report of shots fired.

The 18-year-old victim sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he is receiving medical treatment. A preliminary investigation determined that the male victim was shot while leaving the area after a party ended due to the altercation.

As the RPD continues to lead this open investigation, I’d like to emphasize that gun violence such as this within our Borough is a serious threat to public safety and will not be tolerated. It takes a toll on our entire community.

I want to assure residents that our administration is working with other communities and political leaders to help rid our streets of illegal guns by advocating for life-saving gun safety reform. The passage of anti-gun laws at the state and federal level will help prevent illegal guns from coming into our community and create the safe Roselle we all deserve.
